News & Views for November, 2007

With all the little parties popping up this time of year it's nice to be able to put together a few new looks without spending a fortune.  This fun top I found at Target the other day is perfect for doing just that.  I can throw it on with a pair of black pants I already own and some great looking heels.  Grab a clutch (which you can also pick up at Target if you don't already have one) and call it a day.  All for just $24.99.  How cool is that! I am always looking for new ways to wear my old standbys.  I love a great button down shirt under a short sleeve tee or sweater.  I also like to throw a long sleeve tee under a 3/4 sleeve tneck or sweater.  Lots of fun and a little unexpected.  Today, I'm trying something new with my Gap hoodie.  I must admit I bought it to wear with my flannel pj bottoms, but it is so warm and snugly I didn't want to take it off this am.  So....I'm throwing in on like a cardigan/jacket and pairing it with a button down shirt and belt.  Check it out.

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and of course a very successful Black Friday.  My sister, mother and I were up and at it quite early Friday morning to score some serious deals at stores like Old Navy, Target, Gymboree, Macy's and more.  I must admit we did pretty well.  In fact, I am wearing one of my favorite finds today.  A super cute, bubblegum pink crewneck cashmere sweater from Old Navy that I was able to get for a steal - just $29.75 (reg. $59.50).  How cool is that.

One my favorite things about the holidays are all the fun little parties.  A night on the town with your girlfriends, the annual neighborhood holiday party, work parties, New Year's Eve, and more.  However, it can be tricky trying to find something suitable to wear to all the different events.  A good place to start, Banana Republic.  They've got a great selection of fun dresses for all these different occasions.  Check out one of my favorites.  (1 comment posted)

As far as sweaters go, I have to admit I'm usually a crewneck or tneck girl with an occasional vneck thrown in.  Sometimes though it's nice to step out of your comfort zone and do something a little different.  For me that means trying a cowl neck.  I picked one up the other day from Ann Taylor LOFT.  There are actually quite a few different sweater necklines to choose from these days.  From portrait collars to shawl collars (check out the Old Navy cashmere one I wore the other day) to ballet neck sweaters and more.  So try something new.  I think you'll be glad you did. There are a lot of animal prints out there right now.  Cheetah, leopard, zebra and more and I love it because it's an easy breezy way to add a little zip to your look.  Throw on some rockin' leopard print heels to make your jeans and tshirt outfit really pop or pair a zebra handbag or some fun leather gloves with your simple black coat.  Ooh la la.  I picked up a fun leopard print belt from AT LOFT the other day that I really like.  I'm pairing it with a cardigan and tee today.  Check it out. I love cashmere for winter.  Oh so warm and soft.  It used to be you had to spend 100+ to get one, but not anymore.  With stores like Target and now Old Navy adding cashmere sweaters to their lineup, you can get a nice cashmere sweater for a seriously affordable price.  In fact, the Isaac Mizrahi for Target short sleeve tneck cashmere sweater was featured in the November issue of Real Simple as one of their favorites.  Yesterday, I headed over Old Navy to check out their selection.    (1 comment posted)

Like I said before, these jacket style, chunky knit, super comfy and warm cardigans are everywhere this fall and I really want one.  The problem is I can't seem to find one that works perfectly for me.  If you're tall and lean the longer, coat style cardigans look great.  If you're on the shorter side like me they can be a bit overwhelming.  Though I swear I see Giada de Laurentiis wearing them all the time and she is very petite.  Anyway, I picked up a new one from Anthropologie that I think works better on my shape/size than the one from Banana.  Check it out.

I am always looking for a cute top that I can wear with jeans and rockin' heels for a night on the town with my girlfriends or on a date with my hubby.  Nothing too crazy just something fun that makes me feel a bit more sexy and not so "motherly" if you know what I mean.  That said; those perfect little tops can be difficult to find.  At least for me anyway.  So I was so excited when I found just what I was looking for from Anthropologie the other day.    (3 comments posted)

Ok....I'm taking all of your great advice and pairing my collegiate looking sweater with a great fitting knee length denim skirt and heels.  I am probably going to freeze, but for some reason the tall brown boots I had on earlier just didn't work for me.  So...I am throwing on some super cute heels, a long wool coat and heading out.  Take a peek and let me know what you think of the "new" look.

That's right ladies, the temps are beginning to drop and that means it's time to bundle up.  And nothing is better at keeping you warm than a great sweater.  Layered over a button down shirt or tshirt or worn all by themselves, a sweater is a definite must have for fall & winter.  And a great sweater for a deal is even better.  I happened to pick up one this weekend at my local J.Crew store.  How cool is that. I must admit that I don't own a ton of clothes from Old Navy.  Not sure why.  I just don't find all that many things I really like there.  However, once and awhile I'll stumble upon a really good buy.  The shirt I'm wearing today is a prime example.  A seriously easy breezy button up, rolled up sleeve, super lightweight cotton shirt.  Nothing major.  Just oh so comfy and easy to throw on with jeans and a cute pair of shoes.  Hmmm......I'm beginning to see a pattern here.   (1 comment posted)

My sweater today is screaming argyle and it's one of those patterns that you either love or you don't.  I happen to be a fan.  Not that I have a ton of it, but I always like to add at least one to my fall & winter lineup.  It's the perfect way to jazz up a basic crewneck sweater, etc.  J.Crew is famous for it, but you can find argyle sweaters at a ton of places these days.  Check out my entire look for today.
